Daruma otoshi is a traditional game played with a Daruma doll in five pieces. It is played by using a small hammer to hit each of the colored pieces from bottom to top without letting the pieces fall during the game. This Namiki Nippon Art fountain pen displays the Daruma Otoshi game on the body and some balls on the cap. This piece includes the Hira Maki-e technique, where the lacquered main design is adorned with sprinkled gold and silver powders; several additional layers of lacquer are applied, and once hardened, it is polished.
