This incredible Namiki Nippon Art fountain pen references Hagoita, the wooden paddles used to hit shuttlecocks in the traditional Japanese New Year's game called hanetsuki. Crafted by "Kokkokai," a group of Maki-e artisans formed in 1931 around Gonroku Matsuda, this piece is made using the Hira Maki-e technique, where the lacquered main design is adorned with sprinkled gold and silver powders. Several additional layers of lacquer are applied, and once hardened, it is polished.
